Do you ever think that when people say to put yourself first that they may also mean God?
As a Christian, we preach that when you are reborn Christ begins to live inside of you. When you are being good to yourself and loving yourself you are being good to God and love him also.
The Bible says that the greatest commandment is to love one another as you love yourself.
Do you think loving others as you love yourself also means to love others as you love God?
If the answer to these two questions is you, then you need to start by loving yourself in order to have a better relationship with others.
Love yourself the way that God talks about love in 1 Corin. 13:4-8, “ Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails…”
Be patient and kind to yourself. Do not envy what others have and do not boast and be proud of what you have either. Honor others, and humble yourself. Control your anger and keep no record of the things you’ve done wrong. Simply forgive yourself and learn from your wrongdoings. Tell the truth, be honest with yourself. Avoid being in denial and recognize things and people for what and who they are. Always protect, trust, and have hope in yourself. Push and persevere. Do not give up on yourself. When you can do that for yourself then you can do that for others. But it all starts with you.
